Recently, the controversies related to BTS's military service have become more and more intense because the National Assembly has not yet reached a final conclusion. Meanwhile, supporters are constantly giving evidence that BTS's dedication to the country is not small and that it is an advantage if BTS is exempt from military service.
One of the information released is that BTS has brought national benefits worth 45.5 billion USD. Even this value, when compared with those who are eligible for military service exemption, shows how BTS has made a huge amount of money for country over the years.
In recent months, the priority of military service exemption for pop artists has become hot potatoes for the Korean National Assembly and the people. Supporters are constantly giving evidence that if pop artists have contributed to the country as much as BTS, they deserve this right.
Typically, Congressman Seong Il Jong said that BTS's topping the Billboard chart boosted the Korean economy. He made a comparison as follows: "Winning an Olympic gold medal has an economic boost of about 259 billion KRW totally. Meanwhile, winning first place on Billboard has an economic boost of 600 billion KRW per second. BTS has been at the top for 17 weeks so far, and the group is bringing about 56 trillion KRW (approximately $45.5 billion) to the national benefit."
This shows how big the influence of BTS on socio-economic issues is. BTS is also probably the first group to bring Korea huge economic value. Of course, politicians also see this advantage of them, World EXPO 2030 is a prime example.
In addition, some politicians point out that the Grammy awards, the American awards, the Billboard awards are the things that have raised the national brand a lot, but few people can do it like BTS. But they also said that the military service exemption is not exclusive to BTS. If other groups achieve similar achievements in the future, the state must have a fair regime in the military service law.
However, Ahn Gyu-baek, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea also mentioned that serving the nation's military with a $30 billion vision is also enhancing national prestige. So the issue of military service is still being considered very carefully.
Regardless of the reasoning and eventual outcome for this issue, ARMYs would probably agree that BTS's opinion is still the most important. How they choose to serve their country should be up to them!
