Bang PD and BTS started working together from the very first days when they had no money and status in hand. To become one of the world's most famous groups and the most powerful president in the industry today, both BTS and Bang PD had to put aside many of their personal passions and interests.
One of Bang PD's childhood dreams was to develop a popular video game. He has focused on being a producer and a CEO for many years and now he is rediscovering his childhood dream.
This development direction of Bang PD is also said to be bold steps of HYBE to expand the business field of the group. Besides, it is also the first step to fulfill Bang Shi Hyuk's unfinished dream:
President Bang Si-hyuk and CEO Park Ji-won visited Busan BEXCO on the 19th, where 'G-Star 2022', the largest game exhibition in Korea, was in full swing. Here, HYBE President Bang Shi Hyuk also announced the game vision of the subsidiary HYBE IM and shared his aspiration.
First, Bang PD and CEO Park Jiwon confirmed that HYBE's goal in the next quarter and next period will be to expand their business into the game field and this is a long road in the future. Both expect that HYBE "will continue to innovate in the music business and become a company that is good at games."
At this event, HYBE IM (a gaming subsidiary of the largest K-pop company HYBE founded last March) also held a publishing contract signing ceremony for Flint’s upcoming online game Dragon Blaze 2: Knights of Veda. HYBE decided to invest by buying Flint shares directly. CEO Jeong Woo-yong said, "HYBE, who is uncompromising in music, and Flint, who is obsessed with game perfection, are the same," he welcomed the partnership.
Meanwhile, President Bang also shared that his dream of creating entertainment games has been his passion since childhood. Bang PD shared that "Games are my Achilles heel" and since before meeting BTS, he has had investments in game companies. Even Bang PD once contributed capital with his cousin to run a game company but failed before BTS debuted. That is probably his biggest regret.
At the present time, when Bang PD has enough economic potential and has had early successes in mobile games, he has started to seriously start a new game business. He also stated that the game business is necessary to develop into a general entertainment company.
Even so, Bang Shi Hyuk is still struggling on the path of developing video games. Despite the initial success of BTS-affiliated games such as "BTS In The Seom", "BTS World", "Rhythm Hive", etc., there has been a continuous drop in player numbers in the past year. the following months.
All games developed by HYBE recorded sales of 107.2 billion KRW in the third quarter of this year. Game sales were not disclosed separately, but it doesn't look like it could fill the void of BTS complete when the group enlists in the future. Ticket sales alone that BTS earned from concerts in the first half of this year reached 100 billion KRW.
But Bang PD and CEO of HYBE still hope to create a game that attracts users in the future!
