About a decade ago, the name Bangtan Sonyeondan was often mocked by the K-pop fandom. A small, struggling company and seven unknown teenagers were debuting with a name that meant “bulletproof youth against pressures and prejudices of society,” which many found laughable.
At the time, the public criticism was so intense that several members admitted they were embarrαѕѕed to tell others the group’s name, even though Bangtan Sonyeondan had already been decided. The members themselves also questioned whether BTS was a suitable name while considering two other options, “Young Nation” and “Big Kids,” before their official debut.
Fortunately, they ultimately chose BTS, and that name has become an inseparable symbol of the group’s remarkable career!

People say, “what is meant to be yours will be yours,” and the name BTS seems to have been “destined” for these seven boys long before they even started. Thanks to a new feature on Twitter, ARMYs discovered that BTS was already the name reserved for the group in 2011—well before their official debut.
According to Twitter’s new updates, users can now view an account’s profile details, including date joined, location, verified status, username history, and connection мєтнods. Using this feature, ARMYs checked the official Twitter account used by the members themselves to post content (not the company-managed group account) and discovered a surprising detail.
The “Date joined” field shows July 2011 in кσяєα, a time when Big Hit hadn’t even αѕѕembled all seven members as we know them today. RM, SUGA, and j-hope joined Big Hit around 2010, Jungkook and Jin joined around 2011, while V joined toward the end of 2011, and Jimin only came on board in 2012.

In other words, the name BTS had already been decided very early, before many members had even auditioned, and long before the group officially debuted.
This revelation left fans αωєstruck. The name BTS appears to have been “destined” for the group from the very beginning. Once mocked and causing the members some hesitation, the name now stands as proof of their journey overcoming obstacles, taking them from grueling practice rooms to the world’s biggest stages. Looking back, everything seems fated: seven boys, the name BTS, and an unforgettable legendary K-pop story.
