BTS in general and RM in particular are the world's top Kpop superstars, not only because of their achievements in their fields but also because of their influence in political and social issues. RM himself was appointed as the Public Relations Ambαѕѕador of the Ministry of National Defense's Remains Search Team (South кσяєα).
Most recently, RM was also honored as one of “16 Male Role Models Helping to Stop Violence Against Women”. However, some people are not satisfied with this honor of RM, even creating a big controversy and criticism aimed at him.
Faced with RM's image being distorted and disrespected, ARMYs immediately spoke up to defend him:
For many fans who do not know, The Pixel Project is a global non-profit organization that tends to support women. The organization states that it has "a mission is to raise awareness, funds, and volunteer power for the cause to end νισℓєи¢є against women through campaigns, initiatives, projects, and programs at the intersection of social media, new technologies, and popular culture/the Arts.”
In 2024 The Pixel Project’s “16 Male Role Models Helping to Stop Violence Against Women” list, RM was chosen for this year’s title because of his feminist voice, alongside figures such as human rights lawyers and prominent equality activists. The Pixel Project mentioned the steps he took in order to address concerns of misogynistic lyrics.
When the list was shared, while many were proud of the idol being honored, others had very different opinions. Some netizens felt that RM’s inclusion on the list was inappropriate, citing the idol’s past interactions with an accused rapist. They argued that this was an inappropriate action for a feminist role model.
In addition, they also pointed out that RM did not prevent blocking misogynistic behavior or making impressive contributions like others on the list. Some even brought fans into the dicussion when they claimed that "he has never, not even with a single word, attempted to tell his fans he does not stand for s#xually harαѕѕing female idols under the pretext of defending him", "his own fandom has done nothing but har@ss and sltshame women/girls since its existence and he haven't called them out not even once."...
In the face of negative comments and criticism directed at RM, ARMYs did not stay silent. Fans started using the hashtag "WE LOVE YOU NAMJOON" or
"SO PROUD OF YOU NAMJOON", making it on trend. Along with that, they provided compelling evidence to add to the reasons why RM deserves to be on the list of "Male Role Models Helping to Stop Violence Against Women".
ARMYs pointed out that “Kim Ji Young, Born 1982” is one of his favorite books. This is a book that describes кσяєα's progress in feminism, addressing many topics surrounding women such as family-career pressure, ѕєχual harαѕѕment, hidden cameras, discrimination in the workplace and in society...
RM and j-hope also represented BTS to attend an event organized by W кσяєα magazine within the framework of a campaign to raise awareness of breast ¢αи¢єя and health check-ups specifically for women...
GQ Germany also listed Namjoon as one of the male celebrities that set a sign against toxic masculinity...
And there are many moments where RM shows polite behavior towards women, becoming a standard of behavior for many others. The way he protects other female artists and colleagues has also been praised many times...
Fans believe that RM is completely worthy of the title "Male Role Models Helping to Stop Violence Against Women". The opinions or criticisms that are appearing are just because they're jealous with RM's success:
