V has long been known for his close friendship with a famous group of friends in the кσяєαn entertainment industry – the Wooga Squad, which includes top celebrities like Park Seo Joon, Choi Woo Shik, Peakboy, and Park Hyung-sik.
According to V's own words in the BTS 5th Muster Music Shop DVD in 2019, the name “Wooga Squad” came about very naturally: “The five of us often ate and hung out together, and then we realized we got along so well that we were like a real family. But since we’re not actually related by вℓσσ∂, we thought of the name ‘Wooga’. And so, ‘Wooga’ was born~!”
In addition to V’s sharing, other members of the Wooga Squad have also shown the strong bond between them by frequently mentioning one another during shows, interviews, and on social media.
Recently, a clip of Park Hyung-sik talking about the Wooga Squad υиєχρє¢тє∂ly became the center of online debate. In the video, the actor shared many interesting and touching things about the relationship between the five friends, comparing each of them to a family member: Park Seo Joon was described as “the father”, Peakboy was “the eldest son”, Choi Woo Shik was “the mischievous middle child” and V was called “the immature maknae”. Lastly, Park Hyung-sik referred to himself as “the mother” – the one who always cares for and looks after everyone in the group.
The actor concluded: “We are always cheering on each other. We always support and really congratulate each other with a lot of sincerity.” He also expressed his affection for V by choosing “Rainy Days” from V’s solo album as his favorite song.
However, what made this video controversial was Park Hyung-sik’s use of the term “immature maknae” to refer to V. Although it was clearly said in an affectionate tone, some fans felt that this was a disrespectful way of speaking that undermined the personal growth and maturity V has built over the years.
Some comments expressed dissatisfaction:
- V is already an independent artist with a successful solo career. Calling him immature is inappropriate.
- Tae can be close with BTS members as well as wooga members. Also if someone from bts members would have called tae " immature" you people would have dragged that members while bringing posts saying how smart tae is
- As a public figure, he should be more careful with his words
- Why would Hyungsik say soмєтнing that undermines that? Like he's a silly child
Despite the controversy, the majority of ARMYs stood up to defend the actor, saying that those who were offended misunderstood his intentions. Specifically, they pointed out that the phrase “immature maknae” was merely a cute joke and actually showed the deep affection the older brothers have for V.
Some even noted that Park Hyung-sik has always supported and praised V, not only in group activities but also during his solo promotions.
Fans responded to the criticisms of Park Hyung-sik’s words:
- That’s just how they show love. Everyone has nicknames in their friend group. ‘Immature maknae’ is just a cute way of speaking.
- Tell me u dont know a f*ck abt wooga members bond without telling, they love and care for eo even more than ur bts members have between them. They treat tae like a baby, they promote his music too, they visited him before going to military and after his discharge too
- Youngest maknae = youngest in the family.. spoiled by elders family members but in bts no one gives chance to tae bcz youngest spoiled kid is jk. In elders love language you can call immature, brat, naughty etc but in group competition jealous comes first before adorable love
- Guys, with you, my walls are down” that’s what Taehyung told his closest friends. Let’s not forget, when he celebrated his military discharge at home, it was with the Wooga Squad, the ones he’s truly close to
- If hyungsik calling tae an 'immature baby' is disrespectful what do you call namjoon drawing this whole nonsense out to describe taehyung at the grown age of 22
- No need to explain. Those of us who support and follow Taehyung, know very well how much Wooga loves, cares for and respects Taehyung.
- Even without knowing the detailed meaning of the word, I know Hyungsik meant Taehyung is their cute little maknae.
- Taehyung& his Wooga brothers could be just co-workers in a drama series. However, they developed a deep bond, like a family, as they shared similar personalities — kind, loving, genuine, caring, and understanding. We feel so grateful that Tae found his best friends at that time.
