All ARMYs know that their fandom only owns one official light stick, the ARMY BOMB. Therefore, any other self-designed light sticks that are not distributed by HYBE are not recognized.
But recently, the situation of selling solo stan light sticks of BTS members has become more and more popular. ARMYs have started to pay attention to this situation and heated debates about whether or not to use solo stan light sticks have also occurred.
Below are the conflicting opinions of fans surrounding this incident:
Light sticks are considered one of the typical symbols in Kpop culture. Fan club light sticks will be designed and produced by artists and groups. Kpop light sticks will have the group's logo, the glowing color is the fanclub's signature color, the shape depends on the design of the management company or chosen by the artist or group. Therefore, just by looking at the lightstick, one can identify whose fans or which fandom they belong to.
Similarly, when ARMY BOMB is mentioned, people will immediately think of BTS and ARMYs. The вσмв-shaped symbol on this lightstick has been αѕѕociated with the group's fan community for a decade. Not only is it iconic, ARMY BOMB is also like a symbol of the fandom's undying love and loyalty to the 7 members of BTS.
However, recently, many fans have discovered some types of solo stan lightsticks of BTS members being sold widely on online markets. Importantly, HYBE is not the one who created these products but a group of fans designed them themselves. More notably, these solo stan lightsticks have the logo of their idols and ARMYs note that it is illegal to use these logos on lightsticks for unofficial marketing purposes.
Furthermore, the majority of ARMYs are also unhappy with the alleged division between BTS members. People criticize those behind the creation and sale of BTS member-specific lightsticks for promoting the solo stan trend in a negative way. On the other hand, many fans agree that there is no need for individual lightsticks for each member and they want to continue using the official BTS lightsticks.
ARMYs who objected made the following arguments:
- We have no other official lightstick other than the ARMY Bomb. Jungkook's logo is a registered trademark, and it is illegal to use it for unauthorized work. Please report this instagram account to the Portal.
- it encourages solo behavior too ngl
- Nauuurr it looks so ugly and cheap looking too
- Don't purchase anything other than official ARMY вσмв lightstick. And report the accounts who are selling fake/ individual members lightsticks. They are trying to create divide among fans. Why would you want to sell one member stick? In concerts we support all 7
- It's better in it's original & official way. They are seven and it's seven for one. I SAID WHAT I SAID
- I will only use the official Ot7 army вσмв. Solo's are so sick
- If you want to show your favor for a member, you can do it by decorating it on ARMY Bomb like we did. Don't use highlighting your bias to encourage solo stans.
Conversely, some fans said that the seller was an ARMY, and their intention was not to create division or promote solo stan culture within groups but to support and enhance the solo careers of specific members. Therefore, people also said that they saw nothing wrong with these products being sold on online marketplaces.
Others added that there is nothing wrong with these homemade light sticks appearing on the internet and that they are not necessarily used in official events. They also noted that the BTS light sticks sold by HYBE are too expensive and quickly sold out, making them difficult for some fans to access. Meanwhile, the homemade solo stan light sticks are cheaper, more accessible, and highlight their bias.
A series of opposing comments included:
- Oh here comes the Army anti-fun ρσℓι¢є. Not everyone can afford a $50 light stick plus shipping. Fan made goods have been around forever and unlike most Hybe products, they are cute and affordable. Buy legit if you can, otherwise mind your business??
- Jung kook solos got painted like an antagonist by army. Like you mad over ∂αми lightstick when jung kook has been been disrespected and discredited and you never speak about that. Army priorities are f*cked up
- it's beautiful and is it illegal for us to buy it? what's the rule that only light sticks sold by HYBE can be used?
- We bought it because it had our bias's name on it. Like me, I still have my army вσмв at concerts. Don't overdo it!
- ARMY Bomb represents BTS but not our bias, we just want to highlight our bias.
So what about you, what is your opinion on this issue?
