In the context of the K-pop album market falling into a stagnant state since 2024, the return of the biggest name - BTS is considered a "catalyst" for a strong recovery. BTS has created a huge economic ripple effect in many areas, such as performances, sales of goods, foreign tourist flows and increased exports of related industries, not just album sales in recent years.
BTS is not only a musical phenomenon but also a strong economic driver. According to Forbes, the group contributes about 4.65 billion USD (5 trillion won) per year to South кσяєα's GDP. A BTS concert creates an economic effect of 450 million USD (619.7 billion won) to 890 million USD (1.22 trillion won), according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South кσяєα.
But first of all, the factor that directly and most directly benefits from BTS's return is obviously HYBE!
According to JTBC, BTS's comeback has created waves in the stock market. The stock price of HYBE, the group's management company, increased by more than 15% in June, surpαѕѕing the $220 mark (about 300,000 won) compared to June 2023. On June 9, HYBE shares нιт $222 (304,500 won), the highest in the past 38 months, with a 7% increase in just one day.
F&Guide predicts HYBE's revenue to reach $2.55 billion (3.5 trillion won) in 2026, thanks to BTS's large contribution. Researcher Lee Ki Hoon from Hana Securities said BTS's annual revenue could reach $950 million (1.3-1.5 trillion won), with the company's performance increasing by 150% in the next two years.
Witnessing a dramatic change with the return of the main pillar after 2 years of absence due to military service, HYBE announced plans to give out rewards equivalent to about 6 million won to all employees in an effort to boost the morale of all employees serving the group's activities.
According to the financial investment industry, HYBE informed employees on June 25 through the company's intranet that it plans to grant 20 restricted stock units (RSUs) to each employee of HYBE and its domestic and overseas subsidiaries.
Based on HYBE's closing price of 310,500 won on that day, this amount is equivalent to about 6.21 million won, or 4500$ per person. The specific implementation date for the RSUs has not yet been determined.
This is the third time HYBE has granted RSUs to its employees. In December last year, HYBE granted 16,396 treasury shares in the form of RSUs to 34 executives and employees. HYBE did this for the second time last month. The company granted a total of 12,142 shares in the form of RSUs to 32 executives and employees.
RSUs are a long-term performance compensation system that sets conditions such as performance achievement or a certain period of employment. Generally, they can only be received after serving for a certain period or achieving specific performance goals.
While stock options grant the right to purchase shares at a certain price, allowing for profit realization based on stock price increases, RSUs consider both performance achievement and continued employment. For this reason, RSUs are considered a more effective incentive tool for maintaining long-term performance and fostering organizational commitment compared to stock options, which are only linked to short-term stock prices.
This move by HYBE further demonstrates BTS's influence and status, causing a stir among netizens:
- 6million in SK is huge, you can use it and buy a lot of things, pay for house rent and still have extra. And it's a bonus so why won't they be happy. It might not be anything in the US but it's not their fault things are costly there. Besides $4.5k as a bonus is still huge btw.
- A normal civil servant earn 2+million in a month, so 6+ million is very huge
- Carrying the entire industry on their backs, like literally.
- im really starting the think that everyone in the world should start being grateful to bangtan
- WITHOUT BTS HYBE IS NOTHING
- I want to be employed at hybe right now
- 6.21 million won bonus thanks to BTS? HYBE knows how to say thanks properly!
- @bts_bigнιт hope u dont forget the unofficial employees here at twitter dot com who does all the promo
- Wow! That's generous, especially in music industry. Hybe how to keep loyalty employees
- not just BIGHIT but all of Hybe. The true owners are back!!
In the future, BTS's journey from the Goyang stage to international arenas promises to continue writing the story of the "trillion-dollar economic effect".
