In the past, people have even strongly condemned idol fanaticism when it comes to anything related to idol fan culture. But now, through the positive influence of many K-pop artists including BTS, this is much more respected.
Recently, a story about a foreign ARMY who saved a busy street in Korea thanks to BTS fans made many people laugh, but from there, there were more positive thoughts about fan culture. Here is the story that is being shared widely on social networks:
Recently, a tweet went viral all over SNS and it even went viral to many netizens both inside and outside of Korea. The post re-shared the OP's own story - a foreign ARMY who prevented a big fire from happening on Itaewon Street.
But why people are interested is something you will never guess. Even the OP was startled and burst out laughing after thinking back to this story.
Specifically, OP shared that she is a Japanese who is on vacation in Korea and she does not know any Korean at all. She recounted that she was returning from dinner at Itaewon when she and her friend noticed a pile of trash in an alley was on fire.
This caused them to panic and seek help. Even though they don't speak Korean, being fluent in BTS' songs is very helpful during this crisis. OP ran to a nearby restaurant and just yelled, “Excuse me! Bultaoreune! Bultaoreune!".
Fortunately, that person immediately understood what the OP meant and ran to put out the fire. She tried to put out the fire with a tub full of water before a customer rushed in with a fire extinguisher and got rid of the flames for good.
For ARMY, “Bultaoreune” is an iconic BTS phrase because their song “Fire” begins with this word. The chorus with this phrase has even been loved and used for many years among ARMYs and other K-pop lovers.
Although the literal meaning of the word is "Burn it up," people often use it as an expression to refer to extreme passion or strong will. However, thanks to BTS' discography, "Bultaoreune" has become synonymous with “fire” for ARMY.
From the pictures the OP posted, the street seems to be a crowded and congested area. If the fire goes unnoticed, people can be seriously endangered. But fortunately, liking BTS in this case helped a lot to put out the dangerous fire.
As you can see, idol fandom is always a good thing for those who know how to use it positively. Below the OP's post, there are a lot of comments like:
